Tennis Superstar Maria Sharapova is a fan favorite and that seems to be earning her a few bets in botthe land sportsbooks and at online sports betting sites or top casino providers. No doubt a great part of her struggling is due to her injury and her comeback from that injury, but injured or healthy players are what they are and Sharapova is a little overrated at this point in her career.

Although Maria Sharapova never played in the 2009 Aussie because of her injury but the last time she played the event, in 2008, she won. Prior to that in 2007, Sharapova made the final in Melbourne so she does have a lot of success at the event. The problem with Sharapova in the sports betting market in the past 8 months was that she was recovering from shoulder surgery and players on a comeback are always question marks. However, Sharapova did show signs of strength in the latter part of the season as she made the finals in Toronto and then she won in Tokyo.

Some of the sports betting sites has left Maria Sharapova’s odds long to win the Australian Open in 2010: currently she is priced at +1000 (10/1).

Other betting odds to win the Grand Slams in the 2010:

  • Australian Open, +1000 (10/1)
  • French Open, +1400 (14/1)
  • Wimbledon, +1000 (10/1)
  • US Open, +800 (8/1)

From the above prices the French Open should be avoided like the plague. Sharapova never won the French even when she was playing her best so you have to think that her post-injury odds of +1400 are still too short to pick.

If any price is worthy then it is probably the Australian Open at +1000. She won in 2008 as mentioned and she was also the runnerup in 2007. The smartest thing you can do with Sharapova is sprinkle her for the Aussie with Paddy Power and then watch her carefully. If she experiences success (makes the semis, finals, or wins) then you could reconsider her for Wimbledon or the US Open but right now she doesn’t look great in the future’s market at all.

Other Tennis players betting odds are:

  • Serena Williams, +200
  • Venus Williams, +2500
  • Justine Henin, +500
  • Svetlana Kuznetsova, +500
  • Kim Clijsters, +600
  • Dinara Safina, +800
  • Caroline Wozniacki, +800

Maria Sharapova was previously a World No. 1 ranked tennis player, though as of October 27, 2008 she was ranked World No. 6 according to the Women’s Tennis Association. In her career, Sharapova has taken three Grand Slam singles wins, and in 2004 she beat Serena Williams in the final of the Wimbledon championships at the age of 17.

Since then, she has defeated Justine Henin in the final of the 2006 US Open to take the win, as well as defeating Ana Ivanovic in the 2008 Australian Open to take the win. Sharapova has also represented Russia in the Fed Cup, although there is some controversy surrounding her appearances. She has also been featured in numerous modeling assignments, including a feature in the Sports Illustrated Magazine. In July of 2008, Maria Sharapova was named the highest paid female athlete as a result of her success both on and of the teenis court.
